Michael Vigil was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1958 and he lived most of his young adulthood in Anaheim, California. He now resides in Taos, New Mexico. Vigil grew up with two rich legacies: an artistic family and his Hispanic culture. He considers his father, the prominent late painter Veloy Vigil, his greatest influence. He owns and operates a Fine Art Print shop and continues to paint on a professional level. He is a well-established artist who has taught many courses to both elementary students and university students. His range of female subjects and sports-related themes have exposed him to many different venues including the Robert Mondovi Wine Center and a One Man show at Dodger Stadium. Vigil’s style is clearly his own, an evolution over the last decade that has led to painterly glyphs, bold use of color and a combination of media.  His work is characterized by brightness, an illumination from within the artist as much as his choice of palette.

 

Michael Vigil nació en Denver, Colorado, en 1958 y vivió la mayor parte de su juventud en Anaheim, California. Ahora reside en Taos, Nuevo México. Vigil creció con dos legados de gran riqueza: una familia de artistas y su cultura hispana. Él considera que su padre, el destacado pintor Veloy Vigil, ya fallecido, fue su influencia más importante. Vigil es dueño de un taller de grabados y sigue pintando a nivel profesional. Es un artista establecido, que ha enseñado muchos cursos tanto a estudiantes de primaria como de la universidad. Su amplia gama de temas femeninos, así como de temas relacionados con el deporte, han permitido que su arte sea expuesto en muchos lugares diferentes, incluyendo el Robert Mondovi Wine Center y un show unipersonal en el Dodger Stadium. El estilo de Vigil es claramente suyo, una evolución que lo ha llevado, en la última década, a los glifos pictóricos, el uso audaz de color y a utilizar una combinación de medios. Su obra se caracteriza por la brillantez, una iluminación que va desde el interior del artista hasta su elección de la paleta de colores.
